Welcome to the March housing report for Barnsley. It’s official, we are finally open! Thank you to everyone for all their support.

Whilst the government seem to be spending all of their time “sorting” Brexit, the housing market is showing strong signs of resilience in a difficult political climate. Let’s take a closer look at what happened in the Barnsley market (S70-S75):

In April 2019, 308 properties in total were sold. A breakdown of the sales is as follows:

Up to £125,000 – 166 properties
£125,001 – £250,000 – 130 properties
£250,001 – £500,000 – properties
Over £500,001 – 3 properties

The lower and middle end of the market accounted for a high percentage of the total property sales (54% and 42% respectively).

What were the most popular house types?

Barnsley has a diverse breakdown of house types. In March, the most popular house type sales were as follows:

Terraced – 115 sales (37%)
Semi-detached – 91 sales (30%)
Detached – 41 sales (13%)
Other – 61 sales (20%)

Barnsley is definitely bucking the national trend. The housing market is far from the doom and gloom the media will have you believe. If anything, the uncertainty has created a fantastic opportunity for sellers, as a lack of properties for sale has tipped the supply and demand scale well and truly in favour of sellers. If you are looking to sell for the best price, now is the time to do so. Take advantage of the situation and move before things possibly change.
